A modular kitchen fails in one place first, and it is almost always the same place: the cabinet under the sink. Everything else in the room can be built from an ordinary interior board and last fifteen years. That one carcass, if it is built from the same board, will swell at the base within three or four monsoons.
So the useful way to specify a kitchen is not "which plywood for the kitchen" but which plywood for which part of the kitchen.
The short answer
Divide the kitchen into three zones:

That is a genuine saving over specifying BWP throughout, and no loss of performance where it matters.
Why the sink cabinet goes first
Every other part of a kitchen deals with airborne moisture — steam, humidity, the occasional wiped spill. The under-sink cabinet deals with liquid water, sometimes standing, often unnoticed.
A slow drip from a trap or a filter connection does not announce itself. It runs down the back of the carcass and collects on the base panel, which is horizontal, usually unsealed on its underside, and hidden behind a shutter that nobody opens except to reach the dustbin. By the time anyone notices, the base has been damp for months.
Boiling-water-proof grade exists precisely for this. Specify BWP for the under-sink carcass base and sides even if the rest of the kitchen is BWR, and make sure the base panel's edges are sealed on all faces.
What the monsoon adds
Hassan's climate does not put more water into a kitchen. What it changes is the drying half of the cycle.
Through the monsoon months, ambient humidity stays high for weeks. A cabinet that gets wet in a drier climate dries out between wettings. Here it may not fully dry for a long stretch, which means the board spends longer in the swollen state and the glue lines spend longer under stress.
Two practical consequences for kitchens in Hassan:
- Do not treat BWR as optional in the working run. This is the specification that carries the kitchen.
- Ventilate the cabinets. Small ventilation gaps at the back of base units, and a plinth that is not sealed airtight to the floor, let a cabinet dry between wettings. It is a joinery decision that does as much for longevity as a grade upgrade.

The details that decide how long it lasts
Seal every cut edge. A cut edge is exposed core, and in a kitchen it is the entry point for almost all moisture damage. Every edge — including the ones behind the shutter and under the plinth — needs banding or sealing.
Raise the plinth. Keep the base panel off the floor. Floors get mopped, and a carcass sitting directly on wet tile wicks water upward.
Silicone the sink cut-out. The countertop cut-out around the sink is a common leak path into the cabinet below.
Plan for the leak you cannot see. A shallow tray under the sink unit costs very little and catches years of small drips.
Ask for the same batch. Kitchen shutters sit side by side in a long run. Sheets from different production lots can vary slightly in thickness and shade, and in a straight line of shutters it shows.
